I’m Engaged! What next!?
‘I turned around and that was the moment, my heart skipped a beat!’…
For all you love birds out there who popped the Big Question over the festive season, Congratulations to you All!
Now every time you take a photo, a hand appears from every angle showing off a fabulous new sparkler! Yes, it is actually happening, you’re GETTING MARRIED! So since you’ve got engaged, every minute, hour and day is filled with colour charts, wedding magazines, Spotify playlists and the endless questions of who, what & where?? It’s a whirlwind!
At this stage you have shared the good news with parents, family & friends! I’m sure even the post man knows! It is such an exciting time, bringing family & friends together to celebrate two people who are deeply in love!
So what next? I don’t know about you, but when I have to plan an event, ideas run wild through my imaginative brain, switching from one idea to the next! So take a minute to gather your thoughts…Make a LIST! Lists were invented to keep people like me sane! Plan, organise & execute!
With it being ‘Wedding Planning Season’ I wanted to share with you a few tips and some of the MAIN things to think about when planning the perfect wedding day.
“Is it too early to book”, “When is the best time to contact suppliers”, some of the questions I hear from so many couples! My answer is always “If you KNOW the supplier you want, book ASAP”! There is nothing I hate more than a happy, excited couple contacting to book to then find their date is already secured. Like myself, so many other suppliers are a ‘1 wedding a day service’.
“I should have”, “Keep everyone happy”, a few phrases I have previously heard from couples. My advice is to go with what makes you happy! Remember this is YOUR day, it is your time to explore, be creative if you wish and visit 100 different dress shops (if you’ve got the time). At the end of the day you want to look back and say “I wouldn’t change a thing”, or in the words of Frank Sinatra “I did it my way”!
“Should I attend wedding fairs”. In my opinion I would definitely attend, if you are available. Why? You may ask. My number 1 reason is to get up close with specific suppliers! This is a chance to view their work, ask any questions and to book on the day! As a supplier, I love showcasing at wedding fairs. It allows couples to come and listen to my live performance, get an idea of what we are about and also have a chat with myself. My second reason is the chance to view your preferred venue in all its glory. Dressed to kill, each venue pull out all the stops to show couples what they have to offer! This may help narrow your venue search or seal the deal!
If you have been planning for what seems like YEARS (this would be me!) Or if you are newly engaged, embracing the new year and starting to plan early, this is a BASIC checklist of some main things to think about. There is no specific order, just as long as you tackle the immediate to-do’s.
So lets begin….

- Wedding Date
- Ceremony Location & Wedding Venue (if separate)
- Guest List
- Pre-Marriage Course (if required)
